found another gem today (only the 4th in 10 days, so still a novelty!!) as i went to get it, one of our new girls (she def didnt lay it) got there first and started pecking at it! i dont swear much in public but did tell her to get off, ive heard of this b4, but cant remember why they do it or what if anything i can do to stop it? lucky i was there or she may have ruined it. they are my precious gems (1st one as a double yolker!!)

Ours generally only eat soft eggs, and then not always. But we did find one the other day that had been pecked but only through the shell. the membrane was still intact.
Not happened since.

Can't help you with why but I know if it's regular, you can fill a blown egg with mustard or something equally nasty as aversion therapy.  :)

weve got two filled up already, so we are now using a currently not used part of the garden as another compost heap for plant, shrub cuttings etc!
