pommegranates
« on: June 06, 2010, 17:33 »
I bought two pommegranate plants last season, people said I was nuts and they would not last the winter out. Well they did in my polytunnel, and they have come back to life this year better than ever! My question is; how to I look after them properly? I'm not sure of soil type or what to feed them with. At the moment I am leaving them in 7" pots in the polytunnel, in run-of-the-mill potting compost, they are about 1ft tall and covered with healthy leaf. Also, can anyone tell me how old they will be before I can expect fruit. I do not know what type of pommegranate they are as there was no label attached when bought.
...the night was dark...they usually are!

where I lived in greece they grew happily in chalky clay that was baked hard and cracked in the summer and soft and wet like estuary mud in the winter rains
I don't know how old they were but about 4-1/2ft tall.

Don't know if that helps much though :)
