Growing Tomatoes
« on: April 07, 2020, 12:19 »
My new neighbour has told me they grow tomatoes in this way.   They buy nice ones from the greengrocer, cut their favourites in half, roundways, put them onto potting compost in a seed tray and then sprinkle more over the top.    Have you tried or do you know about this ?    Mrs Bouquet

Isn't this just the same as buying tomato seeds, but without the reliability of the seed, or losing half your lunch?  :D

I'd heard another way which is to eat the tomato, then 8 hours or so later, do your "dirty sinful business" in your compost heap and eventually you get some lovely tomato plants growing with their own lump of manure!  Think that's why tomatoes used to grow in the middle of rail tracks!!  :tongue2:

If we see an unusual tom' whilst on holiday I buy one and save the seeds on kitchen paper.  We have had some tasty toms' that way.

Cheers,  Tony.

Might just as well scrape a few seed put and eat the tomato. It's OK unless it happens to be an F1.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

DD, we had some great success a few years ago with some re-sown F1 Crimson Crush toms.

Some went one way and died, others stayed healthy and thrived - extremely well, with huge returns!

Had we not given up 'The Patch', we might have been squillionnaires by now, but we did, so we're not..;0)
