Has Anyone Tried Slug Gone Wool Pellets?
« on: April 06, 2013, 10:18 »
As the title says really, had major issues with the slimey critters last year but really do not like the blue pellets, they smell awful and also we have small children and a greedy pig of a dog so not ideal. Found this Slug Gone stuff in the Mr Fothergills catalogue, 3.5 litre pack for £6.95 that will protect 20 - 25 plants or a 20 litre pack for £19.95.

For some reason you cannot get any further into the product page, they seem to being having their own slimey gremlins today :)

Anyone used it before? Anyone got any comments about it?

Thanks

Chris

Not used it PP, but looks pricy.

You can use cheap and cheerful bran from the health food shop.  The slugs love it and it swells up inside them so they feel full and leave the plants alone.  I also use wood ash from my open fire sprinkled in rings around plants  :)

I always use Growing Success organic pellets. They are a little light blue pellet which kills the slug by making it stop eating, and is safe for use around children and animals.

This has come up before.  There should be several threads in te similar topics section.  To paraphrase, I tried them.  They didn't work for me, but did for others.

The metion of bran took me back more than 50 years when my dad used to get mitre(i think) from the chemist and smashed it up with a hammer in newspaper, mixed it with bran and fed the slugs...i dont know what it was but it worked!

Tried them-not impressed. I use mainly bran, but you do have to top it up when it gets wet. It is very cheap if you buy from a horse feed supplier or similar outlet. Last year I also tried a few the Growing Success pellets as they are supposed to work even when wet.
