jumbo gave us one hell of a fright
« on: October 28, 2011, 21:37 »
We had been out all day, drs, car  repair and class. When we at last got  home Lola was at the gate to meet us but not Jumbo, he is always at the gate.  He was at the other end of the patio, unable to stand up, he was laying in poo and pee.  He was in a terrible state, we thought he had broken his back or legs.  Jim picked him up and tried to stand him up, he stood still for a while   then realised the gate was open and took off! He was fine.  We haven't a clue what he did to himself. There is a low wall, about 6 inches high, we wonder if he fell off it as the neighbours dogs were in the olive grove next to our house.   All very odd, but at least poor fat boy is ok now and no vet needed!

Ps tomorrow jumbo gets a shower he stinks!

Not sure whether to say lucky you / jumbo, or not  ??? :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Sounds like poor Jumbo had some sort of seizure, which could have been a reaction to a fall.  Glad he's OK now if a bit stinky  :)

I checked Jumbo's gums and they were white.  Once we got him back after running off hiw gums were back to being nice and pink.  Marsden he was jumping about like a loony!!

Jumbo is fine, just smelly, this morning.  I too am wondering if it was a seizure he had.  Will be keeping an eye on him.  He is asleep curled up with Lola as his pillow.

Jumbo had another funny turn this afternoon. He rushed in and virtually sat on me, he looked worried, I thought maybe our kitten had scared him. Jumbo is scared of the cats!  He then  lay down, his back legs had gone, he was dragging himself along on his belly. He had peed himself. It lasted about a minute at the most. He then went outside and did a big poo. The last turn, or the first we have seen was 30 days ago.  He has had his tea and is now asleep in front of the log burner.

He is fine now.  Fast asleep.  He is a worry, he is really tubby, he honestly has very little to eat, He has been tubby since the first day we got him, all he had had was his mothers milk, she gave birth out in the olive grove. I wish we knew what his father was, other than a pot bellied pig!

Glad Jumbo is OK now.

Perhaps he has developed mild epilepsy   Just the way you are describing his confusion and epilepsy sufferers do sometimes lose control of their bodily functions when they have a seizure.  If it was mini strokes you would expect some residual symptoms, not a bounce back to normality so quickly.

If he was human I'd say he was having transient ischaemic attacks called TIA's (mini strokes), they usually don't leave any residual symptoms but are often a prelude to a full blown stroke. If it was epilepsy he wouldn't have been dragging himself on his belly with paralysed back legs.
