Garlic Plants
« on: May 22, 2019, 20:10 »
Hi,

A silly question, how do you tell when garlic is ready to be picked?

Planted some back in November.  Should it completely die back before harvesting?

Thanks.

Perhaps a bit early yet. Dont wait for all the leaves to die back as the bulb will be overripe by then. When the lower 3 leaves have withered and browned is when I normally pluck mine out, my sept planted ones I reckon want another 2-4 weeks. I pulled some Germidour out last week and they were well developed but could have done with a bit more time.

Looks to be actively growing, and therefore still bulking up the bulb - I'd leave it until at least some of the leaves start to die back.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
