I was talking  to a lady gardener on our allotments the other day and I commented on her lovely crop of brussels sprouts and because of the quality of the sprouts I asked her what variety she was growing because I naturally thought there got to be F1S but to my amazement she said they where O/P variety Bedford now I always grow FIS and this year Maximus they turned out ok but not as good as hers and you get more seed for your money with O/P varieties so that made me think should I try an O/P variety next year  say Bedford ?

Bedford are a early sprout all over by Christmas so grow a late as well if yours are a late they won't be as advanced, I tend to grow a mid verity started picking 2 weeks ago hope to go till end of Jan F1s tend to crop over a short period. As important as seed selection is ground preparation mine is now ready for next season apart from some bfb and well rotted manure added to the surface before planting

yes that sounds like a good idea Meterman so first pickings Bedford then follow on with a later variety already got maximus Brendan seed thanks for that

You'll need to sow maximus later than stated as it is also an early but by sowing later can be used as a mid/late
