I have tried baking and brewing yeast in water but found it does not attract like beer. I think they are attracted by beer smell myself. Wine deosn't work either.

we use 'golden syrup' in jars, when finished I put some sugar in and top up with hot water to dissolve sugar. same as beer trap, I found 15 - 20 slugs at a time in there, but PLEASE don't forget to put a twig in so ground beetles etc have a chance to climb out. I don't know if it's the smell of the syrup or whether just sugar would work.

Used to have a slug problem at a previous house.  Put a layer of salt down on one of their 'paths'.  Result: next morning, one dead slug, which I left in situ.  Result following morning - several dead slugs.  An elderly neighbour had told me if you leave the corpses, others come looking and get caught by the salt as well.  Seems to work.

The late swedes I put in outside the net have been untouched by slug, bird or caterpillar - too late for caterpillars now?

Not going by the half hour spent yesterday feeding em to the frog!

I never found a wasp or bee in there, it isn't a 'fruity' smell, maybe that's why.
If i can I kill them quickly, pellets, salt etc must be a torturous(?) way to die, maybe we should remember they are only trying to survive, they don't know they are upsetting us?
