Shall i worm my girls now
« on: January 17, 2011, 09:35 »
Just a quick question.  We picked up our 3 girls last saturday, but forgot to ask if they had been wormed.  Should i just worm them now anyway so i know they are done, or could that harm them.  No worms in their poo but obviously dont want to get to that stage.  Would have to order the wormer first so it wouldnt be immediate.

Thanks in advance

I would order the wormer now anyway, then it's ready for when you do want to use it.

Can you phone the supplier to find out if they were wormed ?

I always like to do 1 mid winter worm, one late spring one midsummer and one in early autumn if they are kept on the same ground.  I do them at closer intervals in the warmer months as that's when you are likely to have an infestation.  If you move their ground regularly in an annual cycle you can reduce the number of wormings to one or two.

If you use flubenvet, which is the gold standard for worming chx, it won't hurt them to be wormed and now is a good time to do the mid winter one assuming they are over their moult.  I'm about to do mine but certainly check with the supplier if you can.
