Poo nearly all water
« on: June 18, 2010, 23:50 »
I've got 3 chooks, all very healthy, happy and laying well.
Over the past few days of hot weather I've noticed very large, not smelly poos that are mainly water with small lumps of undigested grass in. Colour is fine although there's not so much white. They are all drinking loads...have to fill up the drinker more often.
I don't know if it's just one doing the splatty poos or they're all doing it.
Is it normal that if they drink alot it goes straight through? Or could it be something they've eaten or a kidney problem?
As I said...there's no sign of illness at all.

Hi  :),

Chickens often pass watery droppings when they are too hot. Because of this, they drink lots of water to cool them down and they loose some of their heat by dropping watery poos.

I don't think it's anything to worry about as you said it has been quite hot where you are recently :).

Heat is a probable answer.

Lettuce does it to mine too.
