Introducing new hens to freerange hens

Is it better to keep the new hens inside the ´night pen´ for a few days to get them used to where to roost at night?

I have "nearly" always introduced them by putting them in at night and they seem to know the next day where to go and roost. However  when I introduced the Polish a couple of weeks ago it was still light and they flew on to the coop door. So now, every night we have to pick em up (cuddle them of course :D ) and put them in the coop. Alvin, the cock has got the hang of it now tho.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!
