what to grow tomatoes in
hi guys, well the tomatoes in my box are growing beautifully, on the fourth truss now. : just a few questions:

should i remove some of the larger bottom leaves now, as i've read?

i'm also feeding these and the ones in growbags with a liquid tomato feed every week, but at the moment the growbag's composts is already pretty damp, although i want to feed i don't want to overwater (one of the growbags is showing mould)

any suggestions greatly appreciated :D

Think you should wait till the plants have set fruit ... then the bottom leaves come off to allow light and also to remove contest for food  :D

...4th truss indeed    ... some of mine are still only 4"  :?  ... walks away shuffling shaking head   !!!

Dont feed the plants untill you see the fruit is setting, and as there has nt been much sunshine the water in the growbags has nt been evaporating,I would lay off the watering a little.

I remove leaves from the bottom of the plant as the fruit sets on the trusses.

Some people remove all leaves except for the growing point and a few at the top of the plant .

sorry, forgot to say, the gardeners delight are showing fruit on the lower trusses (about the size of a marble).

Showing fruit ?? Mine are only about 2inches high :tongue2:

The entire set of seeds failed to germinate (unwins and cheapo from netto), and the second set have only recently come through) :(

That said, I didn't start until later than this last year as I didn't have the plot until about this time, and I got a bumper harvest. I didn't pinch out or trim at all, as I didn't know you should, I just let the plants grow as much as they wanted.
I got so many toms last year, that even after giving loads away, I had about 8 pounds left - I'm still eating the chutney....
Organic where possible, unless it involves the snails that now seem to be eating the slug pellets for fun
