Title: Found in a shed - but what is it?
Post by: Ashurstman on March 19, 2013, 16:45
This was at the back of my sister in laws shed - and she has no idea what it is. And neither do I. If you push the lever inside the handle a stubby bit appears at the bottom. The footrest does not move. So any ideas?

Potato planter.

You put your foot on it, push the lever and it makes a smooth bottomed hole to a specific depth. (Although I suppose you could plant anything suitable in the hole).

It looks to me as though there could be an assortment of tools that fit on the end, and by pushing the button you disengage them..........just a thought!

I think you could be right, you tread it in on top of the root and pull the centre thingy to grip the root for removal.

I think its more likely that one presses down with the foot then twists the handle, lifts, then push down on the plunger to eject the root.

It's similar to the speedy weedy except it isn't using 3 prongs - place over dandelion press down, turn handle to core out the root then press the centre to push out the plug with the root.

Definitely for removing weeds from lawns - here's a slightly different model: Fiskars Lawn & Garden Weeder (http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-7870-Uproot-Garden-Weeder/dp/B0030MIHAU)

There's also a video to show how it works!
