Goats
« on: July 26, 2011, 18:05 »
I'm getting a couple of goats later this week and hoping they will keep the weeds down until I can get around to sorting out my plot .
Will they eat most weeds and plants?
It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

They will eat anything....as long as there is nothing better to eat. To make sure they eat the weeds, you would have to deprive them of grass!

Hmmmmm....difficult to say. If there is a layer of grass under the weed they will probably be ok, but if they haven't got what they want they will probably go elsewhere to get it! I presume you have some sort of shelter for them? They will need to be able to get out of the rain and, if we have any, hot sun. You will be able to judge by their condition if they are eating enough weeds and grass to thrive. Please make sure there is no ragwort there though.

Have fun. :D

This little devil is ragwort!

Goats eat the bark from trees too if you have any!  When we had our pygmy and bagot goats, they killed a small chestnut tree and 2 others n our garden in Essex, and when we moved here, they ate the little eucalyptus tree that grew just outside their run!

Im just wondering if Judd has got his/her goats yet, and if so how they are getting on. Ive had my boys for 3 months now and I love them so much. They are such characters, and have their own personalities much more than I would ever have imagined. I'd love to see photos if there are any to be seen!
