flubenvet dosage
« on: April 13, 2010, 21:41 »
hi everyone i need some advice from all that use flubenvet medicated premixture.
The tub that i have bought is 240g (contains 6g 2.5% w/w flubendazole).
the question is how do i workout the amount of flubenvet to mix with my pellets.
my four chucks eat about 450-500g of pellets a day between them which is 3150-3500g a week i think i have worked this out to 3.5-4g to 3500g of pellets.
The main question is have i worked this out right and how is it possible to measure 4g when everything i have for measuring is in mililitres or litres and my scales dont even measure that light   .
please someone help this is worse than doing the cryptic crosswords

sorry but my flubenvet is in 60 g tubs and is 1% - the dosage for this is easy to work out as the scoop contains enough to mix with 2kg of feed.
Staffies are softer than you think.

The correct dose rate for the 2.5% formulation  is 1.2g Flubenvet Intermediate (about ¼ teaspoon full) mixed into one kilo of feed and the chickens should be fed on this for 7 consecutive days.

Scale it up as needed.  Large birds will eat more and small birds will eat less.  They should have no other foods during this 7 days.

Here it is

http://www.vmd.gov.uk/domestickeeper.pdf

"As a result of the clarification, the VMD received further information which
explained the difficulties experienced by domestic keepers related to
availability of a cost effective wormer medication. We have acted on this
information and announced that we would allow domestic keepers to mix both
the 60g and 240g Flubenvet Premixture products without being approved by
the Animal Medicines Inspectorate (AMI) provided they do not sell eggs or
meat to third parties."

It seems that to buy flubenvet and mix it into the feed you either have to have a licence if commercial or be a domestic keeper.

"If money is exchanged for the sale of eggs, meat or milk from animals,
including poultry kept on the premises, this is commercial production and not
domestic production
For example, eggs sold as “farm gate sales” is a commercial activity and the
keeper cannot claim domestic status and so these exemptions will not apply
and the premises are required to be approved by the AMI. If you do sell your
eggs or meat (or milk), procedures for approval to mix medicated
feedingstuffs can be found at http://www.vmd.gov.uk/Industry/Feed/feed.htm."

Seems like a load of trossachs to me but there you go.

Ive just read through it again..(im quite thick).Does it mean if we sell our eggs farm gate style we are commercial and therefore need a licence?.....or does it mean we cant sell our eggs only during worming?... i know...im thick.....but i would take that paragraph to mean if we sell eggs farm gate style we are commercial and need to be approved by the AMI....which means most of us on here are breaking the law!?....my head hurts...please can some one explain in plain english :D

This is a confusing area and the legislation does not appear to benefit those of us who keep chickens (and geese) in a domestic fashion but have a fair number of them.

Having browsed through the largely incomprehensible VMD website I did come across a new consultation document http://www.vmd.gov.uk/publications/consultations/VMR10/Consultation_Letter.pdf on page 11 there is a suggestion that the ceiling on the weight of medicated feedstuff be increased for those keeping animals on domestic premises  (Presumably both for commercial and domestic reasons)

I'd be interested to know what more experienced members make of it and whether its worth a concerted effort to express our views.

My maths shows that bird is equal to or greater than the word...
