cockerel thrown into allotment
« on: April 11, 2011, 22:50 »
Whilst sorting out my hens at my allotment 2 guys threw a cockerel in!!, then walked off. Too stuned to yell, but also with the shed etc it isn't worth having the place smashed up later.
Got hold of the manager, but it being a Sunday after 4 and nowhere to quarantine it, it was dispatched. The guys were prob from the local traveller site.

Surely if they had been, they'd have eaten it?  Poor thing!

The cockerel was quite thin and old looking. It was prob eaten by the dispatcher. Hens and cockerals have come and gone off the plots, let alone the fruit and veg!!! Also shed contents, but to have this in broad daylight I found bizarre esp as I was working there!! Luckily the other plot holder dogs didn't get to it first.

How sad, I can only assume that whoever it was thought that as you had hens you may be in a position to deal with the cockerel  :(.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I think that this is starting to happen more regularly.   My mum has an allotment and last week while she was there, a cockrel 'appeared' from nowhere.  Luckily, mum knew of a lady not far away who keeps chickens and was happy to have it. But it's such a shame that some people show no kindness for animals, be they for food or for pets.

This is appalling!  Is this the modern version of compassion?  Dumping a cockerel into an unwitting person's allotment?  Talk about minding your own business and having a problem thrust on you!   >:(
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

It was a lovely looking bird, but very noisy. The men must have hooded it or I would have heard it coming.
I will def keep my 4 girls without adding a cockerel when I move!!
