painting the inside of a shed
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:53 »
Hi, got myself an old 8'x4' shed and just put it up.

I find it very dark inside, does anyone know what white/light paint I can use ?

I know the timber must be allowed to breathe so I can't use gloss, how about emulsion ?

Will be getting a 12volt light for it but I don't want to have to use it in broad daylight.

thanks

Hi SMD,

Shed will be used for storage of tools, Equipment, seeds etc,  but will be my home if it rains whilst on the allotment.

At the moment I travel to the allotment in the car/van but intend to go down most days on my bike once I've got my tools etc in the shed, so will need shelter and space to sit down and make a cupper  :D

cheers

Best to use a white wood primer, otherwise the paint will just get soaked up.

I love my shed, I like keeping the shelves tidy and labeling things and standing in there when it's raining, and the smell of it.  Bliss  :)

Blimey, didn't realise there was so many shedites out there (what do you call a lover of sheds ?)  :D

Didn't think of wood primer although I was painting (myself) with it a couple of weeks ago and I hadn't realise that you could get a light coloured shed stain, looks like a trip to B&Q.

Another thing, my shed has hundreds of holes in, should I just fill with some decorators caulk or something else ?

thanks again

On outside wood, I've just used a bit of clear acrylic caulk to fill holes and smooth it out so there's no lumps. then I prime and paint and they've been fine. I've even filled long splits this way and no one is the wiser once its all painted.

oops - should have qualified that to clear silicone caulk. Its flexible in all weather.

i know it's not the best way but we just used emulsion, two coats and it's fine now - maybe it won't last the winter but it was easy...

just don't fill the holes with expandable foam. My OH did and it looks like a bloomin santas grotto!!!

or perhaps don't use as much as he did!
