Just to let you know that Thompson & Morgan are offering their seeds at half price for the next two weeks.  May be worth stocking up for next year?

Hi John,
Thanks for the heads up on this.
I am an absolute novice, will the seeds keep for next year?

Most seeds being foil wrapped will last at least a year beyond their 'sow by' date. Once the packet is opened they can go downhill quite quickly.

There are rules about germination rates so when they reach their sow by date they can still guarantee a germination level. When it gets beyond that the rate falls.

Parsnips are a good example - once opened the pack may as well be used - they won't keep. BUT I've had excellent results with an unopened pack 2 years beyond it's sow by date

If you have a Wilkos near you they have all their own brand seeds and the T&M ones half price, saves postage if you just want common place types of seed, I have stocked up on those for next year.. as well as trying to squeeze a few spring onions etc. in this year!!

I don't think Wilkos do T&M seeds - but if they have the varieties you want then great.  T&M tend to score by their range - 13 varieties of beetroot, for example.

Incidentally, I'd always suggest using seeds that have the RHS Award of Garden Merit. They're going to be easier.  That's why I split all the seeds into RHS non-RHS varieites, Took a while that did.
