How cold is too cold for spuds in the shed?
« on: December 09, 2022, 17:11 »
Just checked my spuds and they seem ok despite it going down to -4C in the shed last night. Have people ever had their spuds get damaged by hard frost while in storage? I’m loath to move them as the ones in the utility have already started sprouting despite it really only being kept frost free.

yep I have had potatoes frosted not covered up properly hence I made a potato box that holds around 12cwt and that's in the greenhouse and full of spuds so when we where told to except heavy frosts I covered the box with some old carpets I did the same last year and never had no frost damage

I got most of my potatoes indoors before the really cold weather and only a few were damaged. I think with a bit more protection they could have survived OK in the shed, but they were just on trays. Bonus was it saved them from the mice.
