I always plant mine in 3 inch pots on the shortest day, as soon as roots show and tops are growing away I plant them out when conditions allow.
 This is just a tradition past down from me grandad. Tradition also says harvest on longest day but this is always a bit late I reckon.

If it works for you I'd stick to it. I love the idea of following a family tradition.  ;)


I'd have problems deciding which was the shortest day  :lol: Mine seem long in hours but short in time.  :blink:

I do think the variety makes a difference though.  I now grow Longor every year and get a really good crop.



Totally agree, I've tried several varieties not with a great deal of success but the Longor last year were the best by far that I've ever managed down here.
Now trying 'Jermor' an overwintered variety.
