Title: growing carrots in the same place year after year???
Post by: daz on July 21, 2008, 19:53
would this be ok to do as my garden is very very stoney and would take forever to clear them all and i understand that ideal carrots need a stone free enviroment so i was planning on completly clearing one patch of all stones just to grow carrots there

The problem your going to get is you will get a build up of diseases and pests in that area, better to move them every couple of years at least preferably every year.

I agree.

Why don't you clear two patches of stones and then alternate between them yearly, you'll only need to clear about a  6 inch wide trench for each so it shouldn't be too much work.

I'd alternate with lettuce or maybe spring onions.

They should be OK with a 2 year rotation and shouldn't harbour any shared pests  :)

You could always try growing the round ones instead, or growing them in raised beds?
