Title: Pepper ripening & instantly going black.
Post by: Sleepingpopman on August 15, 2022, 15:11
Hi all  ;)
I tried growing red peppers in the greenhouse about 4 yr's ago without any success
& swore never again but whilst buying tom' plants the wife said why not try again so
I bought one. As soon as we got home I re-potted it & the 2 tom' plants into slightly
bigger pots & put them on the kitchen window sill :nowink: After a few weeks I potted
them up into their final pots, in the green house. The pepper was put in a fresh flower
bucket giving it plenty of growing room & away it went, plenty of growth & fruits
appearing which have grown to cricket ball size & started to turn red but now they've
started to go black before fully ripe >:(   Any thoughts::)
Keith.

Are they going black because they are rotten, or just turning black? Some peppers and chilli peppers do turn black.
Did it have a name label or was it just sold as a 'pepper'

Some of ours go from green to black to red. If the fruit isn't wrinkling or going mushy perhaps leave it to see what happens.

If it's the bottom turning black it could be Blossom end rot.  Some of my Bulls Horn peppers have suffered
