Ideas for treats!!!!!!
« on: May 16, 2011, 11:45 »
my 3 chicks are very difficult to please .  they would love grapes all the time , but thats too expensive, but want some thing thats easy and does  not go off to quick.  i have tried  fresh sweetcorn, my amber chick (crystal) turns her beak up.  mealworms my white ranger(snowy) turns up her beak. My brown ranger (goldie)  seems to eat most things except mixed corn, which none are bothered about and scatter for the wild pheasants to eat.  it would be nice to find them some thing when i need them in quickly to lock up at night.

Mine love cucumber (a couple of bits diced) which are inexpensive and also quite easy to grow. I always have some on standby!

mine seem to like marmite on toast (which is good for them im told), sliced apples, cooked pasta, and in the winter mine loved porage oats..

also tying the apples up to something gives them somthi8ng to do and aids to keep bordem away
keeps 1 colubian black tail, 1 light sussex, 1 speckled maran, a 3 new chicks

Tinned sweetcorn or cooked pasta are my girls favourites. :)
Cheese makes everything better.

One thing I'm learning about chickens - they all have their personal likes and dislikes and no two are the same!  All kinds of things I see suggested on here I try on my girls and they look at me as if I'm a bit soft in the head.

Mine don't like tomatoes.  They also don't like corn.  Yesterday they refused to eat an earthworm.  ::)

They do love bread (I like to think it's because it's my home-made five-grain organic recipe... but I don't think they're that choosy).

They especially love it when I take their normal run-of-the-mill everyday chicken food, put it in a bowl and add enough water to make it a bit sticky.   As soon as they see me carrying the bowl they're tripping over themselves to get to me as fast as possible.  They may be afraid I'm going to eat it myself.  ???
