Oh dear, was woken up by her indoors saying listen to that!  Ella one of our silkie chicks is just finding her sorry his voice.

Live in residiential area and worried about neighbours complaining.  Kids will be heartbroken if he has to go.

Has anyone managed to keep a cockerel quiet on a morning?  He wasn't too bad and only crowed when her indoors let them out this am.  But i'm assuming he'll get worse as his confidence increases.  Also other 2 a bit put out as he keeps tryig to bonk them.

I think the only way without resorting to drastic measures, is re-homing
fat hen, keeping them in a low pen, so they can't stretch their head up to crow is one method, but in my opinion its bordering on cruelty, and i'm sure you don't want to do that, hope that helps mate :)  :)

If the housing is very dark, he may not crow until his is let out. Though crowing during the day could still be a problem.

Re-housing a Cock could be hard, :(  Good luck.
Sam.

Organic with treated timber present.
What can you do? I don't want the house to fall down.

Hmm, thinking how can I keep Ella or should I say Eddie?

Wonder if aversion therapy would work, everytime he crows maybe squirt him with a water pistol!

Or maybe I could sound proof the chicken run sufficiently that the neighbours remain blissfully unaware of his presence.

Whole family would miss him he's so tame and friendly, he's happy to sit on 6yr old daughters knee & watch tv.

Anyone any ideas?

I reckon if he crows after say 9 am, then people should have no cause to complain.

Bonking the other chickens, without consent is another problem.  Should I give him bromide?
