Hi ,I've just dug up and drying my garlic and found a what looks like a tiny brown chrysalis type of bug in the stem and between the cloves,any ideas as to what the are and how to protect next years crop would be a great help.I have only grown garlic for 2 years and not had this problem before .

Sounds like it could be leek moth.

Taking into account your location - have a Google for allium leaf miner and then find a nice quiet corner to cry in.

AAAAAAGGG yes lardman you are spot on ,seems the only remedy is fleece.Thanks for both replies

Here at fort Lard, I have not seen any damage from them this year growing under veggie mesh ('cheap' un-branded enviromesh) If you're putting leeks out they'll suffer the same fate too so best to cover up asap.

Thanks  for the info will get some for next year, I have not planted leeks this year as I had a bad crop last year probably due to the same bug.I am older and a little wiser now but don' tell the wife!
