Title: Garlic spray for bugs?
Post by: Marijke Jones on March 16, 2024, 12:31
Dear gardeners,

Recently there was an article in the paper about using garlic spray to get rid of bugs in the garden. I wonder if any of you have used this on their allotment and does it actually work? You have to cook two bulbs of garlic and press them and then it’s two spoons on 5 litres of water.
Look forward to your reply.

Sort of....

I make a mix of 3 orange peels, 2 cloves of garlic and a teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
This is added to a litre of water and boiled up, puree it and then strain it.
Add this concentrate to 5 ltr of water and I use to spray brassica, broad beans etc.
Works well against slugs, black fly, greenfly, fle beetle etc.

That sounds like a fiendish mixture I must remember to try it!
There will be a good slug crop this year based on the weather so lots of scope.
