Advice on a new Wheelbarrow needed
« on: February 28, 2007, 17:20 »
I'm looking to buy a new wheelbarrow - but budget is tight so it needs to be relatively cheap if possible.

What sort of things should I be looking out for, and what should I avoid?

Have you recently bought an inexpensive wheelbarrow - and would you recommend it?

Something with the wheel WELL BACK.  Puts the weight on the wheel and not on the handles.

From recent experience ...

... buy one that can comfortably double as a chair for when the blasted mouse has nibbled the seat out of yours ... and from past experience, buy one that is stable enough for you to stand in to get you out of your plot if some * has locked the gate! ...  :D

If you ask me, if it makes it easier to move stuff on mass and works what else could you want?  I picked one of the cheap ones up from Wilko.  It does the job well enough.  My only complaint is the nut came of the wheel axle.  Found it and put it back on tighter and its not been a problem since.

never buy a wheelbarrow at the garden centre
go to a builders merchants.
try " the builders centre " if you've got one near you, they sell real tough steel ones for about £30 that will last you a lifetime. :D

Yeah builders' ones. Get fat tyres too - easier over uneven ground
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I totally agree with the boys on this one, builder's barrow for sure, them garden ones are flimsy rubbish.

Yup, gotta builder's barrow but we are a two-barrow household.  The other is a Haemmerlin which I also really like.

I've got a tub on wheels - quite easy to manage, but a tad embarrassing to be pushing down our street !!!    Jean
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!
