Title: Hi! No allotment yet. Waiting list
Post by: UrbanGoodLife on January 26, 2022, 21:58
Hi, I thought I'd join as I found this forum looking for info on canning.

I am pleasantly surprised it's still an active forum as many forums become groups on you know where.

I don't have an allotment yet however I am trying to utilise my back yard as much as possible. So far I have 69ft² of growing space. I live alone with my son spending some time here. I'm going to try grow as much as I can this year. I grew a few bits last year but didn't move here until may. Started the garden through summer.

I'm also keeping quail for eggs and some meat. I'd love to be self sufficient but I have to work full time and have limited space.

Look forward to interacting here.

Thank you all.

It's not a big garden but it's certainly bigger that most living in a 2 bed flat I guess.

It was all gravel and concrete when I moved in. I've made 3x 16ft² beds give or take. My quail hutch has a green roof giving another 12ft².

I'm going to be building a sitting area with a green roof for planting on. But yeah trying to make the most of the space.

Last year it was over shadowed by a big tree which was a bit gutting having a South facing garden. However the neighbours have dealt with the tree so most of it is a sun trap.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens this year.

Here's a couple of pictures. I've been out there all day putting wooden boarders around my existing beds I made last year. Those are the ground level ones. I've added a lot of organic material in the past 6months. Green manures, compost, mulch and fallen leaves from the tree recently been removed.

I also decided to make a new raised bed down the centre. The plan is to make a sandy soil mix for carrots and parsnips.

Then there is my green roof on my quail hutch. Totalling 72ft² of growing space not including pots.

Can't wait to see it all green in a few months..
