The new strawberry leaves are lacy with holes, and I cannot see why. I cut the first lot of damaged ones off, but the next lots are quickly being reduced to skeletons too
Can anyone help with some advice please?

Not sure... the leaves are like lace and there is no sign of webbing. It is affecting ones outside too

Have you seen any of those skinny green looper caterpillars on your plot this year? They like strawberries and over winter as pupae in the soil.

One grower I knew used to mulch his strawberries with straw and around now as the leaves are browning he'd set fire to the straw, killing off the pests. Did seem to get some good results.
The super summer we had does seem to have had a downside in the number of pests.

No caterpillars to be seen, and as they are in plastic troughs I shall pass on the opportunity to burn off the top growth :lol:
I have cut off the top growth though, scuffled out the top inch of the soil and replaced it, and then sprayed the remains with insectcidal soft soap t drench the crowns completely. All the tables on which they sit have been scrubbed down too, as well as the outsides of the troughs
Just have to wait and see now I guess
