reintroducing sick chicken
« on: April 29, 2010, 16:16 »
Our dear Ruthie injured her ear lobe, and the bleeding caused other chickens to pick on her. We isolated Ruthie to treat the wound. We wired off part of the chicken run so the other chickens can see Ruthie, but not get to her. We also keep Ruthie in cage inside the coop at night or during bad weather.  This  has protected her from being picked to death. That was about 11 days ago and now her injury has healed. However when I tried to introduce Ruthie back to the flock the other chickens jumped on her and starting pecking and fighting! It was awful to see Ruthie get attacked...I have once again isolated Ruthie.
How can I safely re-introduce Ruthie back to the flock?

sorry I had missed this post and see nobody else had answered it  :(. Could you try adding another hen into her run for a few days so at least when she gets introdyced there will be two of them to deal with the flack?
Staffies are softer than you think.
