Chicken eye infection
« on: November 07, 2010, 18:43 »
Earlyer, i noticed that one of my chickens had something up with her eye. It looks as if it has been pushed beck into her head, and it has white stuff around and over the eye. She seems fine in herself, but she had been losing feathers for some time. I dont know if she is being attacked by her room-mates or not, she lives with two other healthy chickens in a generally clean coop, with a fairly big run. She doesnt seem to be having trouble breathing. An answer as to what this may be and treatment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

she needs to see a vet as she may need an antibacterail cream for her eye. Get your vet to take swabs and send the swabs off to see what cultures they grow.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Welcome to the forum, Govier96, I agree with Joyfull here.  It would be a good idea to get swabs tested.  I hope you have a local chicken-friendly vet  :)

they will take her, im going to wait until tomorow to decide, today she looked unhappy and she just sat in the corner of her house, even when food was shown to her, i am hoping that she was just comfortable as where i am now its rainy and cold and there house can get drafty......my friend is a fellow chicken keeper, i will ask her.

She might have a respiratory disease .... these can show in the eyes as well :(

She will need antibiotics etc if she is to get better and the faster she gets them the better chance she has :(
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!
