greetings on this wet bank holiday .i have had 4 hens since last april they were 3 months when i got them they have been laying really well all last year and over winter but one of them has started laying a soft shelled egg for the last 6 weeks?a cure would be most appreciated.

Welcome PTH

Your chooks are running low on calcium in their bones and are in need of extra.

Make sure they have crushed oyster shell that they can take whenever they want to.  As a boost to their calcium level I would add some limestone flour and a few drops of cod liver oil to their pellets.  You can get the limestone flour from the horse feed suppliers.

My vet advises Calci-vit in liquid form which you add to their water. You can buy it at Pets at home (bird section).

A friend of mine that has show birds has a bird that has been laying soft eggs and she is trying the Calci-vit to see if it will help. I will keep you posted.
