Is a petrol lawn edger worth getting?
« on: September 03, 2011, 18:28 »
Hi all,

Is a petrol lawn edging machine worth getting (the wheeled ones I mean, not the strimmer attachment ones)

Can they be used just to trim the grass edge as well as making a new edge, or just the latter?

I have a lot of edges to do, and thought one might make my life a little easier

Never used one, but have cut some edges ages ago... cutting by hand is tedious to say the least.

I had a look on the web:

http://www.mowermagic.co.uk/acatalog/Lawn_Edgers.html
http://www.aclegardenmachinery.co.uk/other-garden-machinery/petrol-lawn-edger/

This is what I would look for - less you need a tiller, then a Mantis is what I would recommend (even though I still have not tested the edger attachment):

We use them a lot, They really do cut down the work.
The only downside is that without care, it's easy to keep cutting into the grass which then increases the size of the beds. That's ok once or twice.......
We use a few different makes, The Tanaka is pretty good, we also use this beastie...

And the professional one. They are very easy to use, might be a few pounds cheaper too. :)
