NEST BOX
« on: June 20, 2011, 08:54 »
Hello!

I've egg laying issues.  I've my lovely new cube - which is brilliant.  However 6 ladies which all wish to lay at the same time - there only being room really for two, and then once one of them is in the nest box, the are not allowed in.

Is it damaging them to 'hang on'? - in human terms its like 6 are desperate for the loo, and one is taking up the ladies and won't get out!

Any ideas, any thing I should do - OR should I just let them get on with it?

ta.

ps - burned the old wooden coop yesterday.  The mite issue was unbelievable.  I'm scratching just thinking about it!

Hi - I have found that its best to leave them to it, they usually un-sync themselves after a few days, the only problem I have is in the summer one of mine likes to go lay her eggs in the border - small price to pay for lovely eggs.  Good luck

Great bonfire  :D.  Are your girls enjoying their new swanky quarters?  I would just leave them to sort the laying rota out for themselves.

They are loving it, and we added some permanent run structure to the end of it, aswell as the long run they have under the bushes in the garden.  Just laying time seems fraught with squabbles!

We've given up working on our own home, and dedicate all time to the chickwicks!

Wow!  That IS swanky!  I have chicken cube envy!   ;)
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
