B&Q veg plants
« on: April 22, 2011, 16:46 »
Just bought a strip of 12 mange Tout peas for £1.48. Strip actually contained 56 plants. Most of their strips have at least half again what is stated. Cauli's 18 instead of 12 Lettuce 20 instead of 12. Can't wait for the sweet corn, last year i got 45 plants from 2 strips for 50p each.

That sounds like good value for money fatcat, thanks for the info. :) Out of interest as you tell us you grew these strips last year, you must have got a good healthy successful crop from them, or you presumably wouldn't be buying them again? :)

Growing them all again and seriously thinking of giving up sowing seeds when you can get the young plants so cheap. obviously you can't get everything in the varities you want, so some seeds will still be sown. As for the run of the mill things previously stated, i think it's been & queued from now on.

Have to admit, if I only want a few plants, as in runner beans and lettuce, I buy plants, and last year a strip of leek seedlings did me and my sister. B&Q are good to keep an eye on, often get things there.

Homebase also doing a good line in flowers if you're interested. 10 little pots of pansies for £2 each if you buy 3 or £3 each.  F1 with lovely variety of colours.  How do they make a profit at these prices?
