Daft question I know, but ...
« on: June 04, 2007, 20:52 »
Being a new home brew and wine making wannabe, I've heard that you keep metal well away from your ingredients. Is it, however, okay to boil water in metal pans? If not, what do you boil it in? I could put it in a bucket and let the sun heat it up I suppose!!!  :D That would be difficult though, I've only got daughters! I know, TAXI!

What about a juicer? You know the type, the ones you buy to turn carrots into carrot juice. I bought one year's ago .... it'd be nice to finally use it!  :D

Hope you can help. Forgive my thickicity!

Best wishes.
Cast your bread upon the waters ... and you'll have soggy bread!

I use my stainless steel kettle to boil the water.  You will be pouring the water over your ingredients not putting the ingredients anywhere near the metal pans.

You don't usually juice stuff like carrots, it makes the wine go cloudy, I just slice mine up and my recipe says just cook them until just tender, then once I've finished with them and before the yeast go in, I give the carrots to the chickens, they love em!!!  no waste in this house!

I just boiled my carrots in a pressure cooker (didn't do the pressure bit though).  I did try the juicer for my tinned peach wine but that is not ready yet so can't comment.

Try it if it is a cheap wine you are attempting then if it goes wrong you haven't lost that much.
