advice needed about tatties
« on: January 06, 2008, 09:00 »
hello there you might be getting fed up with my questions by now but here goes. We live nr shrewsbury last year most spuds around here got blight now our local lotty supplier will have his spuds in the middle of january .WE have chosen duke of york and winston for earlies , wilja for 2nd early and king edward / maris piper for lates. Now i admit that im fairly green at this but does this seem a good mix and is there any precations i need take bearing in mind that I to had blight derwas our supplier said that they can mix me some sort of spray that will hold of the blight my only worry is will it leave any after taste on the spuds. Im pretty sure it was called a beuogelai mix that isnt how its spelt but hopefully you will have heard of it thanks for being patient with a local yokel lol
If the early bird gets the worm how come the 2nd mouse to the trap gets the cheese ??

Bordeaux mixture is probably what they are on about, a far as I'm aware it does not leave a taint. After all thats what the farmers blast theirs with or something very similar.

and no we don't get fed up with questions    keeps us on our toes

If you have a look at the Taterbase site (takes you to Dundry Nurseries just above Cheltenham), and if you click on he variety you fancy, it shows the resistance level of spuds against blight, eelworm, scab etc.

I think the Taterbase link is in the WYSIWYGGY threads.

....even more helpful, shows you what you hope to get at the end too.

If you click on the sliced potato pic to the left of the main page, you can put in your resistance requirements and it brings up suitable varieties.
