It seems here in Basingstoke the mice are strong and clever I have lost most of my broad bean seeds planted in November to our little furry fiends, they have even taken to pushing over cut down lemonade bottles around the plants, anyone got any other ideas as I have several more plants in a cold frame ready to plant out?

Can only suggest netting, well pegged down. It worked with my peas last year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

not much good for your broad beans - but still a good tip - mice don't like mint or garlic / aliums - i always keep pots of mint close to things that mice like (like my tulips)

friends of mine are plagued by mice - and she covers everything with thorns and barbs - to deter them - but they are persistant little b*ggers

can you set traps?

the only other suggestions i can make is - moth balls - they don't like them either or you could put down some peanut butter - which should kill them

I've got my sprouts under netting, if I can do that, surely you can net broad beans?

Think splodger meant that mint isn't much help for broad beans since it is dormant at this time of year ??
