Anne Swithunbank in GYO is recommending digging trenches for your spuds now, covering them with double fleece and then planting early spuds at the end of January, leaving the fleece on until the leaves push it up.
I am attracted to this idea as it is a) gimmicky and fraught with potential disaster and b) gives me something to do.
What do people reckon?
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

She lives down south, doesn't she?

I could give you something to do...

Well, one always gets the volunteers, though, don't seem to get frozen deep down. :?

I have often planted spuds in October / November and have posted on these forums saying so.

The main advantage (for my location) is that it is one less job to do at a busy time in Spring.  It does not give me earlier tatties but I do think it gives bigger crops due to larger root system.

It works best with maincrop varieties & I do have free-draining soil.
