Title: Dandelion wine
Post by: fallen angel on February 10, 2016, 15:17
When collecting dandelions for wine do you use the whole head or just the yellow petals?

Many thanks.

Hi FA, just the petals which is an absolute chore but I have never made this wine as I would never get up after spending so much time on the ground, cheers Dave

Just the petals or it will be very bitter.  It is best to remove the petals 'in the field' if you collect them in a bag and bring them home, they tend to get very jumbled and limp making petal removal difficult.

Cheers,  Tony.

Thanks guys I was planning on trying to get them from my garden over a long period of time but the dog is a bit of an issue as I never know where she has weed!  :D I think I will go on a dandelion forage and find a nice spot to sit and de petal :-) I assume I wash them when I get it and can then just freeze them?

Many thanks.

Hello Fallen Angel,

I would be interested on how you get on with the dandelion wine as I wanted to make it last year but left it too late to collect the dandelion heads and the council mower got the last of the heads.  ???
