cabbages?

cabbages?

i got all my cabbages, callabrase and purple sprouting being eaten by something but not slugs. what can i cover them with? would the white fleese be ok?

Are they in the ground?  Could be birds of course or cabbage white butterfly caterpillers, they can do a lot of damage when still small and green. They like to masquerade as part of the leaves and stalks....

I would definately cover them.

If pigeons land on fleece it tends to tear. Netting with openings of less than 7mm is usually advised to stop butterflies.

thanks for the info. unfortunatly the only garden place here doesnt supply that kind of stuff. a person besides me has nice cabbages and stuff growing so might ask what they are doing. plus trying to do this as cheap as possible by finding most stuff in various dumping areas. going quiet well lol, suprising what people throw out.

you have to get scaffold netting off of ebay, its around 40 pound for a 50 meter roll, thats a lot of netting lol me and my naighbour went halfs on a roll, 20 quid each and we both have plenty

yeh i wish i can do it, as soon as you say your from the channel island postage goes through the roof and not worth it. been down today and looked at my other purple sprouting they look fine, also saw on my bad ones i have white fly so going to get some spray or something tomorrow. kill the little blitters! lol

You can also get lightweight net with small holes. This hardly weihs anything so postage might be more reasonable.

Try good ole ebay  ;)
