Please recommend a strawberry variety
« on: January 28, 2023, 22:43 »
After a couple of years’ hiatus when I got sick of my old Cambridge favourites succumbing to blight/ mildew left right and centre, I’m ready to try strawberries again, and would love your recommendations. If there is one that hits the sweet spot at the intersection of flavour and disease resistance I’d love to hear🤣! If anyone has tried Malling centenary I’d love your feedback. Thanks in advance.

I've heard great things about the "Malling Ace" (or just Ace) everbearing variety, though I'm not sure if they are widely available to home gardeners yet.

For a mid-season super sweet variety, I'd certainly recommend 'Marshmello'..  :)

We love Elegance which has an old-fashioned taste and reaches a good size, shape and colour.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I like Elsanta. Never lived next door to anyone called Elsanta. Perhaps a Mexican Father Christmas. I'll get my coat. Sorry.

Apologies then. Reading the comments on the YouTube clip, he clearly has a lot of fans.
Still undecided re the strawberries. Maybe the thing is just to grow some regardless of variety, and they will always taste better than supermarket bought. Think I’ll take a chance on Malling Centenary.
