Jam pot covers
« on: September 05, 2021, 16:15 »
Has anyone else found that jar covers bought this year are just circles of cellophane that don’t stretch over the jar to seal it?  I’ve been using up some old ones for the last couple of years but have bought 3 different makes now and none will seal the jars. Anyone know how to use the new type?

Are they the waxed circles that my mother would put onto the surface of the hot jam before fixing a larger circle of cellophane over the top of the jar with an elastic band ?  A bit of gingham over that if she was in a posh mood.

Quote :  This set of jam pot covers is the essential kit for sealing and labelling home-made preserves. Just simply pot the jam and cover with a waxed disc while the preserve is still piping hot. When the jam is fairly cold, this should be topped with a damped cellophane disc and secured with elastic band. The cellophane then shrinks when dry to create a tight seal over the jar. This jam pot covers kit contains approx 24 transparent covers, 24 waxed circles, 24 rubber bands, 24 self adhesive labels.
