A simple white wine that tastes pretty damn good.
« on: September 23, 2008, 21:29 »
All you need is one Demijohn.

Recipe:
1 litre supermarket apple juice (I use Morrisons Organic, make sure there are no preservatives in whatever you choose).
1 litre supermarket pressed grape juice
1 1/2 lb sugar
1 tsp yeast nutrient
1tsp citric acid
yeast
water to 1 gallon

Pour apple juice and grape juice into a clean Demijohn, put sugar in a measuring jug, pour on boiling water, stir till sugar completely dissolves and allow to cool. add to this syrup 1 tsp yeast nutrient and 1 tsp citric acid, and add to the demijohn, top up to shoulder of dj with water and mix with the handle of the plastic spoon. Add yeast, stir in.

Fit an airlock. Ferment to dry, rack & stabilise (sweeten if preferred), leave to clear and rack/mature as normal. Bottle. This is ready to drink almost immediately.

 :)

Sorry to be dim.  Thought this would be a good start to home brewing could you please explain how much yeast.  I assume i do not want just to put a bung in a demijohn what do i need then?  Is there a similar recipe for red wine?

I have not a clue but have had several tins of an unmentioned beer. hic

Yeast quantity: Either buy it in single packets in somewhere like Wilkinson and just add the packet, or if you have a tin use a teaspoon of the stuff.

When added to the mixture the yeast will multiply so theoretically you could get away with very little being added but don't try it. Stick with a teaspoon of the stuff.

I think I'll try this recipe, but I was wondering if you think it could be easily adapted by using other fruit juice, like orange, grapefruit, pineapple etc?

it should work by just replacing the apple juice with your prefered juice

I have made Orange juice wine and it was nice (mind you I was a student and they will drink anything)
