Marrow Brandy
« on: March 31, 2010, 21:58 »
Cut the stalk end of like a cap about 3 inches down.

Scoop out the seeds going all the way down to a few inches of the other end, being sure not to break the skin or you have had it.

Pack the cavity with brown sugar.

Add half a bottle of cheap brandy to give it flavour.

Replace cap and seal with wax.

Suspend in net in larder or shed for few weeks to ferment.

Tap hole in bottom and and let liquor drain out in to bottle.

Found this recipe in diggers diary sounds alot of fun to make doesn't it  :)
Anybody ever tried this as im going to have a go this yr i think, just for the fun value.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I have done a similar one, filled the marrow with brown sugar and mixed spices, put the top on and stand the marrow over a flower vase, the liquid drips through the bottom, keep filling up with sugar until the marrow loses its shape and becomes soft then add wine yeast to the liquid and ferment as you would wine. I will look up the recipe if you are interested, it takes about 18months + to mature.

Both sound quite interesting but I prefer my brandy unadulterated by marrow I think

I like the sound of the brandy marrow, could I get away with letting a courgette grow to marrow size?
