We can only try out best, even the greatest gardener cannot fight the elements.
My plot is at the bottom of our allotments on a slight downward slope, it would appear everyones plot has drained onto my plot so iv been totally under water 4 times now!!  Each time Iv waited for the water to drain away & replanted, but nothing much has grown & what has the slug have eaten.
The only good thing so far is I collected my blackcurrants & made 20 jars of jam yesterday. Although the slugs have munched most of my strawberries I still have the raspberries to look forward to (fingers crossed the lesser spotted climbing slug doesnt visit them)

Next year I shall be growing mainly rice!!!

"Welcome to the Plot of Death"

If only this applied to the slugs and the snails!!

Ants are, surprisingly, being a pain this year too.

Not the plot of death just the climate, it makes you understand why traditional crops are traditional...you can rely on them.

100 years ago or more we would be looking at a famine.

That's very true.

You may be eating - say - a pound of parsnips or turnips every day, but at least you'd be eating something...

Even brassica tops look pretty good cooked up when all else fails...

alot of my first sowings failed so had to replant
pretty much all my onions have sent out flowers, on the brightside the flowers are quite nice
my garlic was pretty small but not bad for a late planting
all my sweetcorn has stalled
lettuce has gone to seed
my potato`s didnt yield much but i got around 3/4 of a sack in total
my cabbages are all different sizes from seedlings to balling up
what come up of my chard was week and feeble
kale never germinated
first 2 packs of sugar snap pea`s rotted ,2 separate plantings
first lot of runners rotted
french beans rotted too
cauliflower were overgrown by the potato`s so very spindly now
no fruit on cherry or pear tree`s

but its still early
my sugar snaps are just starting to produce a small amount but plent more flowers
runners are about 4 ft high
first planted sweetcorn has caught up with the later stunted corn and should start growing again
just planted out some melons as its sunny lol no chance but better than sat in a seed tray
my 2 courgette plants are getting there first few flowers
just planted more lettuce, three different variety’s of kale and a few radishes
il start some more cabbage for spring soon, garlic to plant octoberish
had loads of strawberry’s,few handfulls of raspberry’s,bowl of gooseberry

just carry on,its supposed to get sunny and theres still time for stuff to start producing

I have a sandy soil so no water logging for me potatoes are OK just harvested some peas, but sweetcorn,  pumpkins, courgettes, butternut squash, Kenyan beans are all still tiny, one of the brussel sprout plants has bolted and they are the plants that survived the slugs and snails I have lost countless seedlings to the little blighters, but now that summer looks like it is arriving we might just have some more to harvest that's if every thing doesn't now bolt !!
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!
