Post by: fisher on September 07, 2011, 20:00
I need some ideas for maybe 4 shrubs to clothe a new south facing churchyard wall. Its tall... maybe 12'. Useful features might be

evergreen
decorative
lowish maintenance
self-clinging but not to damage the wall!
could be supported by wires

ideas gratefully accepted!

Euonymus - an evergreen species that can be either low-growing or support themselves up a wall, a pyrocantha can be trained into shapes against a wall, is evergreen has small white flowers in spring and berries in late summer; cotoneasters can also be trained against a wall; hydrangea petiolaris is self-clinging and has white flowers You can twine  clematis with them all for added colour.
