Feathered friends for the first time...
« on: April 11, 2007, 22:15 »
Evening all! Just about to rehome some battery hens. Any advice on how to get them feathered, happy and well again? Do I have to be careful with introducing scraps etc. Probably sounds a bit of a stupid question, to all you experts...I figured they would have been living on layers mash, and wondered if the would all end up with upset tummys?

Start off by giving them the food they are used to and wait until they have adapted to their new environment before changing it.  Keep them on a healthy diet without too many treats and plenty of fresh greens.

And WELCOME to the forum  :D

Welcome from me too... Just to let you know their feathers will grow back eventually. How fast is up to the other chooks, if they fight each other, as they always pull the feathers. If you are putting them in with regular chooks youve had for a while I would watch them as the older ones will have a right go at the battery hens. Good luck
