Can I plant Baby Sweetcorn in the same block as ordinary sweetcorn?

I grew baby corn last year but it was a lot of stalk for very little return.  And you have to pick them when they are very small to have a decent flavour, a few days too much and they are huge and not as tasty (in my opinion anyway!)  I tried them as an experiment, had 6 plants and had maybe one entire meal for 4 from the lot of them, but mostly I supllemented the shop bought ones as they were all ready at different times.  They did taste better than shop bought though.  I might try proper corn another time, maybe when I actually get an allotment becasue of the space they take up.

I did both last year - you have to be really careful not to let the babies get too big, or it's like eating a stick that tastes vaguely of sweetcorn.  They froze well, and we're still usung them in stir-fries.

The full sized corn was also nice - didn't seem to get any crossing problems, I grew small blocks at opposite ends of the plot.

This year I'm growing one whole bed of supersweet corn - I only gave over a third of a bed to each type last year.  But it was so nice we want more!  And less runner beans and cabbages

What sort of seed do you have in mind? Most sweet corns are hybrids and won't save true to type.

Crowndale, you've hit it on the nose - corn does take up a lot of space to grow well, but oh, when the corn reaches that just right stage, it's fabulous. Hope you get your allotment so you can grow more. Sweet corn freezes nicely (off the cob). It's a heavy feeder so we always give it more manure, and put the seeds in just before a rainstorm. Other than beating off thieving racoons, we always get a good crop with little effort.
