3 boys 1 girl?
« on: July 17, 2009, 22:06 »
hi, I have 10 little chicks in the brooder at the moment, 4 of which are salmon faverolles. they are 2 weeks today and I am 99.9 % sure 3 of them are boys. can anyone second opinion this? and if they are cockerels ( which I highly presume they are) A. what is the best way to get rid of them? (I do not want to kill them, I mean how to advertise that I have them) B. do people prefer to get cockerels fully grown or as chicks?

the chick pictures go, first the 3 males (pickle, purple and samwise the brave ::)) then the girl (banana!)
I live with my black brahma cockerel Trophamus and all my other chooks :)

Yes you are right, 3 boys, 1 girl.
Sorry, but you will be very lucky to get rid of the cockerels, you could try advertising as chicks, then they won't cost you as much in feed.
At least 50% of eggs hatched are usually cockerels, and sadly there is really only one way to get rid of them  :(

Males are a problem. Advertising Free to a Good Home is usually the best way to go, with lots of pictures to entice people but you will be lucky to rehome all of them.

I have rehomed somme of my boys and the remainder will be for the pot  :( in the knowledge that they have had a better, longer, happier life than anything I could buy.  :)
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
